Rebecca was the joy of our lives. From the moment she was born (on her great-grandfather’s 90th birthday) she was special and loved by everyone. As a child Rebecca had a passion for animals, all animals especially reptiles. If you did not like animals or knew very little about reptiles you did after you met her. When Rebecca was 13 we took her to a reptile show and bought her a blue-tongue skink. She instantly fell in love with him and treated Charlie Jean (that is what she named him) hence the shirt on the quilt skink whisperer , she wore the shirt everywhere.
When Rebecca was in high school she had to write an essay about her philosophy of life. Her teacher kept her essay and read it at her memorial service; it was about a kingfisher bird she saved. Everyone gave up on the bird and told her to let the kingfisher die. She did not give up and successfully got the bird to a wildlife rehabilitator, who saved its life.
The local radio station was at the service and we decided to start a project called the Kingfisher project. One year later we have a website and a weekly radio show. Although the project is not about birds, it is to let others know there is hope for people who struggle with addiction.
A quote from her philosophy of life is one we should all live by.” The lives of the smallest mouse and the largest elephant are perfectly equal. We all want nothing more than to survive in this world; every creature has the right to do that. If we all followed this philosophy the world would be a better place.
