This quilt patch was made to honor my husband and best friend.
John was born and raised in Mt. Union, PA. He graduated from Captain Jack High School and in 1968, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history from Juniata College. He was employed as a caseworker for Huntingdon Co. Children Services and later worked for the Dept. of Public Welfare until his retirement in 2004.
He was the father of five beautiful daughters whom he showered with love, guidance and strength. He cherished every minute he could spend with his six grandchildren. He enjoyed their yearly trips to Wildwood and attending all of their sports activities.
He loved playing golf and going to public auctions. He was a collector of local memorabilia and was extremely proud of his extensive collection of Huntingdon County milk bottles.
He had to face many health issues during his life. He knew the long and tiring path you must travel in order to be an organ recipient. After enduring over three years of kidney dialysis, he received a kidney transplant from our son-in-law Christopher. Even though many days were a struggle, he lived each day to the fullest and always had a big smile for everyone he met.
In his early thirties, he made the decision to become an organ donor. When he was born, he was only given sight in one eye. However, this never kept from doing anything he wanted to do in life. How ironic it was, that this would be the gift he could pass on. He truly would be humbled.
Although we only had thirty-five years together, I wouldn’t change a thing. I am one of the lucky ones who got the chance to truly love and be loved.
