Virtual support for Gift of Life Donor Program’s 2021 Donor Dash, originally scheduled for April 19th but postponed due to COVID-19, was outstanding! Organ donation advocates participated by walking and running at a safe social distance from home, and helped raise awareness for organ and tissue donation throughout the day by posting photos with the hashtag #DashFromHome. Gift of Life’s President and CEO Howard M. Nathan joined in on the virtual fun by sending a special message to all Dash participants. Check out that video here!
The virtual event brought non-stop action on social media. The outpour of participation and support from the donation community was truly amazing. Gift of Life received 88 public photos using #DashFromHome on Facebook along with an additional 25 tagged public posts on Facebook. On Instagram, Gift of Life saw 54 story mentions featuring #DashFromHome participation and 151 posts using #DashFromHome.
Participants showed support for Gift of Life’s mission to save lives through monetary donations totaling over $55,000. Within that total, 93 donations were received during virtual Dash weekend.
Gift of Life thanks everyone for their past and continued support of the Donor Dash! We loved seeing your great photos honoring donors, recipients, donor families, registered donors, caregivers, and the 112,000 people nationally waiting for a second chance at life. Throughout these unprecedented times, our clinical team and Gift of Life hospital partners are continuing their 24/7 efforts to save and enhance lives. The Donor Dash and your support play an integral role in supporting this mission. The incredible participation in this year’s #DashFromHome initiative displayed, once again, the strength of our transplant and donation community. We are confident that the rescheduled 25th Donor Dash will be our biggest and best celebration yet!
