Joseph P. McGowan II

Joe McGowan was loved, respected, and admired by all who knew him. He was an incredible person, whose most important and favorite role was Dad. He was full of life and, if anything bothered him, he didn’t show it, saying, “it is what it is!”

Joe played a substantial role is so many people’s lives. He would describe himself as a simple man; he was so humble. Joey was our “Joe Cool”, a musician, soulmate, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, coach, and proud IBEW member.

Describing Joey puts a smile on the face of everyone who truly knew him. Joey’s positively was admirable, his laugh infectious, his hugs comforting, his music uplifting, his smile lit up the room, and Joey’s eyes… oh, Joey’s eyes! His eyes were full of hope, generosity, and life.

After such a major loss, we try to focus on two things: We were fortunate to have this incredible person in our lives and part of him continues to live on. Because of qualities like these, we were the fortunate ones. We were able to appreciate these gifts that resonated inside him and exuded from his soul to those around him. We take solace in the fact that part of him continues to beat, to exist, and essentially live on.

He may not have chosen every role he occupied in life, however, he chose to be an organ donor. Because of this decision, he may have lived life as a simple man but Joey died a hero. Just one more way he found to put a smile on someone’s face.
