Peter Scogna

June 24, 1958 – October 7, 2004

Pete was an avid Philadelphia sports fan from the time he was 12 years old, and his favorite team was the Eagles. Whenever Pete would get into conversation, he would talk about his business, the stock market, and the game on TV last night!! The conversation always ended with, "we need to get together and do some crabs." Steaming and eating crabs was one of Pete's favorite things to do. He always cleaned them before he steamed them and has his own secret concoction of spices that he used. He also made great crab "gravy" to pour over pasta. More times than not, he would get pinched by a crab during the cleaning process, and be the source of much amusement to his nephews as he caused a fuss and complained that, "the d*** thing bit me."

Pete also enjoyed spending time at the Atlantic City casinos and at the shore, which is where this picture was taken. He was always saying, "Can you believe my bad luck?"

Pete died unexpectedly from a surgical accident, and we smile when we think about Pete, up in heaven, stopping everyone he sees and saying, "Can you believe my bad luck?" We hope there are crabs in heaven; and he's busy cooking a feast for everyone and making them laugh and roll their eyes at his antics.

We can't say enough about the Gift of Life Donor Program, especially the counselors and support staff, and the therapeutic value it had during the initial days after Pete's death. Organ donation helped our family make some sense of this tragedy and helped us feel as though something positive and good came from it.
