Kathleen Pierson

Kathy was an artist who loved sailing. She created a t-shirt to commemorate a 400-mile circumnavigation of the Delmarva Peninsula in 2002. The illustration recalled a stormy night on the Atlantic and a spectacular bolide falling through the sky on the last night. This quilt square, assembled by Kathy's mother Naomi Kraning, includes Kathy's illustration from the t-shirt along with a simple sailing pin/necklace Kathy gave her mother.

Kathy's love of nature and respect for it was a continuing theme in her work. This illustration was meant to be humorous, but portrayed well the intersections of her interests.
