My father was born and raised in Pike County, PA. He was a graduate of Penn State where he met my mother in 1968. He was an engineer who worked at two local area hospitals, striving to always "be the best" in healthcare. He was the father of two children-a dedicated and loving husband and father. My father died suddenly and unexpectedly in the middle of the night on the morning of New Year's Eve. While many of his organs could not be used due to the nature of his death, his eyes were used to give the gift of sight.
The square for John is primarily made of the material from my mother's wedding dress. The heart on the square is made from red felt found in my grandmother's (John's mother) attic. The white rose at the top of the heart represents my father's first and only grandchild, Molly, who was just five months old when my father died unexpectedly. The quilt square was made by a woman at our church, where my father was a key leader and choir member. We are all so proud of the fact that my father was a donor and are thrilled that he is being honored with a square in the donor quilt.
