James Werner

James "Trainman" Werner

October 14, 1956 – October 25, 2005

Jim was a very talented and artistic person. He had many hobbies throughout the years. He raced slot cars and radio controlled cars for many years. He also built radio controlled boats and planes. As you can tell by the nickname "trainman" he had a passion for trains. He would sit and watch the trains go by wherever he was. He had a huge model train display set up in our basement. It was featured in our local newspaper under the heading "Thousands of Trains." Anyone who came by to see it was amazed. It was a miniature wonderland. He also built and painted cars since he was a teenager. That was his life's work, AutoBody Technician, and he was very good at what he did.

The material I used for the background of the quilt square is a piece of his plaid blanket that he would put on the seat of the car he was driving at the time, to protect the seat. The material I used for the heart is a piece from one of his many automotive t-shirts.

Jim was a very caring husband and father and loved all animals. I will miss his dancing and singing around the house. I know he is with our son who passed away in 2004 while awaiting a lung transplant. That is the reason he decided to donate his organs.
