The colors used in this quilt square are very appropriate in remembering Fred. He always wore a green long-sleeved shirt and dark blue denim jeans everyday except Sundays and holidays. Those days he wore a long-sleeved dress shirt and denim jeans. In one shirt pocket, he carried his glasses (seldom worn), and in the other pocket, he kept a folder with a note pad and pen.
He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. In the bottom left corner of this picture, you will see a small hand. Fred and on of his great-nephews were sitting inside a fire truck at the fire company of which he was a member. The six-year old hasn’t forgotten being shown the fire trucks by his Uncle Fred.
The red color stands for his heart. He suffered a fatal heart attack in the early morning hours of July 28, 2006 on his way home to his apartment. We wondered why he was out so late. The evening of his viewing, several ladies (employees of the fire company) gave us the answer. Every night he would stay after closing time, help clean up, and then he made sure they reached their cars safely. Fred had found a “job” to go to after he received disability and could no longer work at his previous job.
His family and friends will always remember him.
