Frank T. Dakota Jr.

Son, Brother, Father, Friend

This is how we remember my brother Frank T. Dakota, Jr. Frank was born in Phoenixville, PA on August 4, 1961 to Joan Marsh Dakota and the late Frank T. Dakota, Sr. He attended elementary school at St. Ann’s School in Phoenixville, and graduated in 1979 from Phoenixville High School and was also a graduate of Ursinus College where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Economics and Social Studies.

He was a business teacher at Pottstown High School prior to his passing.

Last July ’08, my brother Frank was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. That same month, my husband and I took him to photo-day at the Phillies and he said next to the birth of his daughter Natasha, this was one of the best things that ever happened to him. We had several pictures taken of him with different players but the best picture of him was with Charlie Manuel, the manager of the Phillies.

During the World Series last year, he became really sick and the night the Phillies won the World Series, I kept calling him to make sure he was awake to see this happen. He was taken to the hospital two weeks later and the morning of his death he told me two things, #1 the doctors couldn’t do anything more for him and #2, atleast he got to see the Phillies win the World Series and the parade. He passed away about 6 hours after telling me this. We think the Phillies kept him alive for a few more months and we’ll never forget the happiness that the team gave my brother during the illness. Frank was creamated and on his urn was the picture of him shaking hands with Charlie. We buried Frank next to my dad, but on top of the urn was a miniature Phillies Phanatic sliding into homeplate. It was bittersweet. Next week is the first anniversary of the passing of our son, brother, father, friend, but today we celebrate the happiness to the recipient of his corneas and hopefully, someone can see better with my brother’s eyes.
