Richard W. Flinch

My square is made from a patch of red plaid, flannel shirt my husband, Rick, wore quite often. I always told him I loved him in red.

There were so many things that I wanted to put on Rick’s square, but the five pictures that I chose reminds me the most about him.

One of the items I put on the square is a bear. Rick always loved them and would collect anything that had a bear on it. I also put a picture of a Viking helmet. He used to boast that he was descended from the Vikings. If he believed that, so did I. Another item was his favorite musical group, the Bee Gee’s. He loved the Bee Gee’s as long as I was married to him, which was 20 years. The fourth is a picture of Saint Anthony, his patron saint. Rick loved the fact that whenever he lost something he could pray to Saint Anthony and he would find it. He never failed him.

Last, but certainly not least, is my favorite picture of Rick in his baseball cap, with a huge grin on his face. I always told him he was the smartest man I knew. Rick was constantly giving and doing for others and it didn’t stop there. He gave of himself at his passing to others in need so that they would have a better quality of life. As Rick has impressed me with his giving to others, I hope that those who were given his gift will value it and at their choosing will wan to pass it forward to others in need.

I love and miss Rick very much. I am very lonely without him, but in my heart I know he’s forever with me.
