Joyce Aileen Hopkins’ quilt square represents the life she lived. She was the first born of four children, on August 12, 1961 under the Earth sign of Leo. Joyce grew up in Philadelphia, PA and later took residency in Whitesboro, NJ. Joyce enjoyed riding her bike and spending time on the boardwalk. Joyce attended Rowan University earning a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Counseling. Joyce earned her Master of Science Degree in Human Services from the prestigious Lincoln University.
Joyce enjoyed her 10 year career as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor for Addiction Recovery System and was recently promoted to Senior Counselor. She was a productive member of the New Jersey State Governor’s Commission on Addiction and Rehabilitation.
Joyce was creative and lots of fun. Each year she would host a New Year’s Eve party for the children of the family, which later matured as the children did and was enjoyed by all. She enjoyed writing, poetry, drawing interesting pictures and finding meaningful, yet fun ways to lead her counseling groups. She was fun loving and really enjoyed her life to the fullest.
The Lagacy of Joyce A. Hopkins includes her daughters: Autumn-Joy James Steward, Amanda Kimberly-Dawn Christopher and Amelia Bernetta Washington, her sons: Adam Albert-Newton Washington and Aaron Michael-David Denesevich, and her grandson: Elijah Anthony Christopher. She leaves to celebrate her amazing journey: her parents: Ms. Bernetta Washington and Mr. Alvin R. Emerson, her sisters: Mrs. Carolyn Elaine Hughey and Dr. Sherrell Dianne Mickerns, her brother: Mr. Albert Newton Washington, and her dog: Sam whom she affectionately called, “Pop-A-Doc”. Even in her passing she continues to help and benefit others through her precious donation to the “Gift of Life Donor Program”.
