Our Threads of Love Quilt square represents a part of Kevin Spiers’ life. Kevin was taken suddenly from us on July 16, 2011; while it was a difficult time we made the decision to donate his organs. That decision had brought us to this place today. We know Kevin lives on in other people and knowing that is comforting. The quilt square we made in his memory has a navy blue background with the Penn State logo. Penn State was one of Kevin’s favorite places and of course his favorite team. He spent many weekends there with his friends. The green shamrock represents his Irish heritage that he was so proud of and is the logo for “Team Spiers”. Team Spiers consists of a group of Kevin’s family and friends who work together to raise money for the Kevin P. Spiers Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund was established in Kevin’s memory to raise money to help students with their Catholic School education. The pin represents I.B.E.W. Local 351 which Kevin was a member as an Apprentice Electrician, a job he truly loved. We included a picture of Kevin on our quilt square to remind us that he is not forgotten. His spirit of giving to others lives on in all of us as we continue to honor his memory. We know that heaven has another angel and that angel smiles down on us every day.
