John C. Vona, Sr.

John C. Vona, Sr.

June 29, 1966-December 23, 2013

This quilt square is dedicated to the memory of John C. Vona, Sr. John was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. The best way to describe John is ‘what you saw is what you got.’ John had a great smile and the picture on the quilt-square shows that. He was most comfortable in his jeans, tee shirts and sneakers- not dressed up. This quilt-square is made from a piece of his favorite clothing, decorated by his wife Jennifer and children, JC, Nicolette, and Cameron and his sister, Tina.

John had a love for many things. He could be found behind the camera at family functions taking pictures. He loved to barbeque and try new recipes. He loved watching old movies and television shows and had an interest in history. The eagle on the quilt-square was drawn by Nicolette as a symbol of his love of history. John enjoyed trips to Washington D.C. to view historical places. If he found something he liked, he would read as much as he could on the subject to learn about it.

John had a great love for his family. He was very loyal to his family and friends. His favorite holidays were Halloween and Christmas. He loved to take his children on hayrides in the fall and to visit Santa Claus at Christmas. On Christmas morning, he was like a little kid, eager to open his presents after watching his children open theirs. He had an amazing ability to find those hard-to-find gifts. Many times he traveled far to find a gift that no one else could, doing this for his family as well as for his friends.

John was very personable and everywhere we went he knew someone. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. We will never forget John and it brings us comfort that his final gift of donation was able to help someone in need.

He was truly one of a kind. We love you and miss you, John. May you rest in peace.

Lovingly submitted by your family,
