John Robert Porter

May 14, 1986 – August 4, 2014

John joined our life when we adopted him at age 3 days. He left us all too soon at age 28. We were fortunate in that he continued to share our home throughout his life so we could see his joys and try to help him through the occasional trouble spot.

John loved to exercise at his beloved Penn Oaks gym. As his skills (and muscles) grew, he took pride in motivating his gym mates, who looked forward to his punctual arrival each morning, though none could keep up with his 3 hour workouts. At home, he doted on the cats- the current generation shown here on the quilt. The black kitty, Jinx, was his favorite and she joins us in missing him terribly.

This quilt is made with photos because one of John’s other loves was photography, particularly nature and wildlife (and the occasional model). Our home, and many of those of our friends and family have examples of his work, and of course he frequently posted pictures online.

John, like all of his age, had not planned to die but he did plan for death by becoming an organ donor. He liked the thought that someone else could benefit from his organs when he no longer needed them. We are pleased that this wish, at least, has been fulfilled.
