Kathryn Shuey

My gram Kathryn was one of the strongest women I have ever known. She not only raised her own three children but also raised two of her grandchildren. She always wanted peace and happiness in the family. Although she went through breast cancer treatments for over 7 years she never gave up until the very end. She always encouraged us to stay strong even after receiving devastating news such as the radiation or chemotherapy was not working or the cancer was spreading. She always cooked holiday meals and spent every Sunday with her young great grandchildren. She continued to work at the Filmore a small general store near her home, where the customers admired her courage and strength up until the store closed.

She awaited the hummingbirds coming to her feeders each year and anxiously told me about them when I would go visit her or we would talk on the phone. She also had a love for flowers. African Violets were her favorite flower to receive and she loved the smell of her fresh lilacs growing out back of her house. She had strong faith in the lord and enjoyed going to church when she was well enough.

I hope that the lucky recipients of her cornea donations are able to see the good in people and the world and are always able to see beyond the troubles of today to a brighter tomorrow. We miss her every day and know she is guiding us like she always has. I find comfort in knowing she is with my Aunt April, her daughter smiling down form above.
