Jackson H. Gearhart

This quilt is created and sewn in memory of my brother, Jackson L. Gearhart (October 1, 1948- January 9, 2015). I chose the forest design because my brother was the forester for Wayne and Lackawanna Counties in Northeastern PA for over 30 years. He was very dedicated to his work with landowners and their trees and in conservation efforts. He planted hundreds of trees at the Boy Scout Camp, Goosepond, in Wayne County, and he also worked closely with the Delaware Highlands Conservancy in Hawley, PA. Jack also helped to start the Wayne Lackawanna Forest Landowners Association. He served on the sterling Township Planning Commission for  six years and attended most of the regular township meetings. Thinking more of others than himself, he left very generous donations to churches, the Library, food cupboards, the Boy Scouts, groups conserving the land, cancer foundations, and special friends. Jack left an ongoing “GROWING” legacy demonstrating his great concern for the conservation  of Pennsylvania’s forests, water, and land.
