Over a dozen Delaware County residents had the opportunity to continue their advocacy for organ donation at this year’s Transplant Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Supporters, organ donators and transplant recipients made the trek as part of Team Philadelphia for the Gift of Life Donor Program’s biennial games put on this year from August 2 to 7, collecting 150 medals and, most importantly, forming friendships and connections to share stories about the riches that come with organ donations.
“Even though we’re competing against each other, we’re one big family and we’re there for one reason: to promote organ donations,” said Parkside resident and transplant games athlete Howard Pritchard. He donated a kidney to his brother Matt in 1991 that gave the Pritchard family another 10 years with their loved one until his passing in 2001.
