George Yefchak

When my sweet wonderful husband, George, died unexpectedly on August 27, 2007, I donated his corneas, tissue, skin, and bones to the Gift of Life Donor Program. Although we had never really discussed it, I knew he would want that: to help others. That was George’s philosophy always. I am grateful that George could continue that philosophy even after he left us.

George’s quilt square is made from a shirt of his, one he got in New Orleans when we attended the annual Jazz and Blues Festival. How he loved that festival, especially the music, particularly the guitar playing, but also the food, and the whole Cajun culture of Louisiana. The shirt was a little “loud” for him, with very bright colors of printed guitars and other instruments. I remember the first time he wore it. I think he was a bit shy at first; he was used to wearing more conservative colors and styles of clothing. I love to think of him enjoying those trips back to New Orleans. He always said it was one of his favorite activities.

I wonder if there is guitar-playing in Heaven. If so, my husband is right there in the front row!
