Antonio Luis Muniz

Tony, as he was called at home, was a beloved son, brother, father, uncle,, and friend. He was born on Feb. 15, 1969 and died March 22, 2008 at the tender age of 39. The purple buttons on his quilt block represent the birthstone of February.

It was only 15 months after he was diagnosed with an accelerated case of Esophageal cancer that he was taken away from those who love him. Most of his life was spend working hard to maintain the family he had created; he knew his responsibilities and, even at times of hardship or physical difficulty, he never failed to meet them

It was hard to believe, at first, that all of his colleagues from work were present at his funeral. I thought for sure that some would say that the driving distance was too much for them. I should have know better… the entire, large office had actually shut down so that they could say their good-byes to their dear friend… A very emotional moment for the Muniz family. The funeral procession must have extended for, maybe two miles… most cars holding multiple guests who cared for him.

Tony's heart was so big, I don't think that there was a body out there it could fit into. He always lent a helping hand, even when he wasn't asked for help. He was kind, sensitive and didn't have a malicious bone in his body… he was the kind of person some people would take advantage of, for being too kind. My family and I chose the white dove to symbolize and represent Tony's inner-self… cleanliness and purity (on the quilt block).

Caring was a major trait of Tony's. The eyes placed on his quilt block represent the eyes he so caringly donated for someone else to be able to see… someone else's brother or sister, son or daughter, father or mother… someone elses's friend. The fortunate individual to receive his healthy, gorgeous hazel eyes, along with his or her family members will forever be indebted to Antonio Luiz Muniz,
