When making this quilt block in memory of our daughter Janice Tarner Crawford I choose a star design using a holly fabric. Her favorite place was our summer home at Caledonia n the Michaux State Forest. She was happy there among the evergreen trees and woodland foliage. The birds, deer and other wildlife added to her enjoyment.
Her favorite time of year was the Christmas Holiday Season. Each year she worked many moths creating hand crafted gifts for her staff in the laboratory at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, PA. These included stained glass art, tatted Christmas ornaments and hand made Angels. Also she baked huge batches of cookies which she shared with her son Douglas and his friends, her staff at work, neighbors and her extended family.
However she was a truly modern woman, she carried her shoo fly pie recipe on her palm pilot. She loved to travel and was planning a trip to Ireland at the time of her death.
Janice was an advocate for the gift of life donor program. She realized the importance of organ donation. Her husband Jeffrey Crawford died while awaiting a bone marrow transplant nine years prior to her death. A donor had been found but his condition had deteriorated and the transplant could not be done. Janice carried her donor card with her and had instructions in her will. Our family is glad we were able to carry out her wishes and someone else is being helped by her organ donations.
