James Knight, Sr.

11/27/1944 – 8/6/2010

James was born in Waterloo, Iowa, living there until he was eight when his family moved to California. He has 2 brothers and 1 sister. After graduation, he joined the US Navy spending 6 years and 19 days on 3 ships, The Scanner, The Vamen, and the Gouldsboro and several landing bases. James married Susan Nealon on Feb 10, 1967 at the Cory Field Naval Base. After being discharged they moved to Dunmore, PA.

James worked for Mercy Hospital for 32 years, starting its first mailroom. He was very dedicated to his job. He went out on disability in 2000. He had adult muscular dystrophy and heart problems.

James had one son, James Jr and 10 grandshildren, Jessica, James III, Joshua, Justine, Julene, Jonathan, Jake, Joey, Justin and Jorja. Also, one great grandson, Dante Knight.

James was very active in many areas, scout troops and cub packs, spending many summers going to camp with the scouts. He made sure all the boys were treated equally. He served as an Assistant Scout Master at the Scouting National Jamboree in Virginia, taking 5 scouts from his home troop in 1981.

James and Susan were married for 43 ½ years. After their 40th anniversary he decided to count the half years and celebrate them.

James used to say he was a “Good Old Southern Boy” which really describes his way of life. His beliefs were God, Country, and Family. He loved to travel. James and Susan took many family vacations first with their son and later with their grandchildren. James lived every day to the fullest and is greatly missed by his family. He gave his corneas to two men in Ohio. We were very glad to hear they were successful.

James was 65 when he died.

Sincerely,

Susan Knight
