Michael Joseph Ciullo

7/9/1979 – 5/29/11

The inspiration for my son on this quilt is a Red Robin. After my son’s passing each and every day I would see a red robin in my backyard. Seeing this bird gave me comfort that somehow my son was still there with me. I grieved for him terribly and through this red robin I spoke to him and sometimes for a second I would see this bird look back at me as to say “I’m here!” I know it was a way for me to handle my pain, something to hold onto, but it also made me realize that my son is still with us through his gift of life.

My son was a free spiritual person, a wonderful son, brother, nephew and friend. His smile would light up a room. It broke our hearts to lose him but his gift of life goes on.

I still see the red robin and to me that red robin is the symbol of my son going on through someone else with the gift of life. Like in my grief, that red robin was my son.

I love you Michael. We all love you and miss you very much. You are always with us
