Richard J. Myers

One year we lost a son, a brother-in-law, an uncle and a great man. Our hearts still ache. Our kids still ask about him and we all get choked up when they do. This is a man who started a foundation to give to children in need at Christmastime. He then turned the event into a bike run, donating toys to the children at A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital and funds to a family in need of help with medical bills etc. This is a man who would literally give the shirt off his back to someone in need. If you needed money, he would give it to you even though he was working two jobs to make ends meet. He helped in every way possible and never thought twice about it. He even gave after his death by being a donor at Gift of Life. Richie was admired by all. A friend wrote after Richie’s death: “I remember when he ran Willis Hardware Store and he would do the Santa mail box at Christmas. And this one year when he had taken the mail box away so Santa could get the letters, a young kid came to the store to put the envelope in the box but it wasn’t there. Richie, being the person he was, took the envelope and said he would deliver it to Santa. And true to his word, he made sure the kid and his brother got what was on the list. That is the type of person that Richie Myers was, never about him, always about the kids. We are proud of him and we miss him every day and that pain will never go away. We know you are watching over us, but we wish most of all you were right here with us. As you always said, “Jesus Loves You,” we in turn will always LOVE YOU.
