Julie fought a brave and valiant fight for life for over 17 years through many ensuing health complications after receiving a liver transplant at Presbyterian Hospital in 1993. While under the faithful and loving vigil of family, close friends and her life companion, she passed away at age 62 at Pocono Hospital, E. Stroudsburg. Julie had worked at Pocono years prior as a monitor tech and later as an LPN, after receiving a nursing degree from Lake Co. Vo Tech in Florida. She worked as a VNA nursing assistant and in an emergency room in Florida, before she decided to return home to help in the health care of her mother.
Ever of a kind and caring nature, she shared her warm heart and generous spirit with all who knew her. Julie’s “out of the box” sense of humor and quick wit brought much spontaneous laughter, delight and pleasure to her family and friends. Possessing a deep faith that “she was in God’s hands, no matter what happened,” she faced the many hardships in her life with a quiet dignity and an “amazing grace.”
Julie’s memory square was made from the fabric of her favorite dress. The red rose was embroidered by her mother, Dorothy. The butterflies symbolize Julie’s beautiful spirit transforming itself and flying to meet those already gone before to that “higher room” (her mother, Father and beloved big sister, Donna, who had sadly lost also soon after Julie, on Nov. 30, 2013.) But, they also hope to represent all the thoughts, prayers, and fond memories of those still here who loved her, communing upward. Because she was a grateful recipient of a Donor of Life gift herself in her liver transplant, which blessed her with an additional 17 years to enjoy and to laugh. Julie would have been so very happy that her last wish to do something good for someone was granted in her donation of sight to another special person.
