Bijan Sarkar was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Chaitali and son Debkumar and wife Neelja, son Rajkumar and wife Ruby, son Rishikumar and grandchildren Deven Diya. He was deeply spiritual and religious and always put his family first. He was the eldest son of the famous scientist Dr. Pulin Bihari Sarkar and Nirupama Sarkar. He had 5 older sisters and 2 younger brothers. In his youth he was a tremendous athlete and was the captain of division 1 collegiate and semi-professional cricket teams. He studied civil engineering at the prestigious Jadavpur University and completed graduate school at Louisiana State University. He was a very successful civil engineer and project control manager and helped build many of the largest power plants all over the world. His world travel took him to places like Brazil, Singapore, Puerto Rico, Scandinavia, Saudi Arabia and countless other places. He was very talented and was able to learn languages quickly and conversationally and spoke over 10 languages. As a first generation Indian-American immigrant, he helped build Hindu Temples and Indian Cultural Organizations that have lasted over 40 years and have directly allowed thousands of youth to learn religion, culture, language and music. He was a man of action and could always be counted on to come through in every situation. Bijan was always smiling and quick with a joke. He raised 3 successful boys who became doctors and engineers. He loved teaching his children sports, soccer, tennis, riding bikes and swimming. He was always on the sidelines for every game and coached soccer. He loved music and cheering for his beloved Dallas Cowboys and New York Knicks. He was always selfless and even in his final act he was thinking of others and how he could help society.
