Doris was many things during her life…Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Nana, Friend…but, above all she was a shining light who gave herself unselfishly. She was bone July 5, 1947 and went home April 5, 2015. Doris served in many capacities through the years…Sunday school teacher, youth group leader, Girl Scout leader, and Deaconess. She held offices in the Harrisburg Area Blind Bowlers Association, Capital Area Council for the Blind and was President of the West Hanover Lions Club.
She retired from the Department of Health, where she was a voice for those who had suffered discrimination. She loved the beach and took annual trips to beaches in NC, SC, and GA. She enjoyed camping, bowled in two leagues, was a wonderful cook and bakes the best lemon sponge pie and peanut butter fudge you’d ever tasted! She loved and collected lighthouses, her favorite flower was the daisy and her favorite color was green. She was Rusty Wallace’s #1 fan and she and my Dad even went on a cruise with him. She served the Lord faithfully and was an active member of her church where she served on the church council and enjoyed the fellowship of the Walking in Faith group.
She had a very special bond with her granddaughter, Kai. Witnessing the love they shared is the thing I miss most. As you can see my Mom did many wonderful things in her lifetime, but to me she was just simply the best Mother and Nana in the world.
