This quilt square was created in loving memory of Hector O. Santiago of Barranquitas, Puerto Rico.
It represents his love of family, his passion for the island of Puerto Rico where he was born, and the city of Philadelphia where he came to live as a young adult and began his family and career over 40 years ago.
In the cente: The Puerto Rico map/flag and his photo wearing his Phillies hat and shirt representing the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia. This photo of him captures him warm smile and kind soul.
Top left corner: The symbol of a family tree represents our loving, close-knit Family – like branches on a tree, we all grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one.
Top right corner: Pocket watch/compass. The compass represents the direction he gave to many. The watch represents the priceless gift of time, the quality time we spent creating many memories, and his love for watches.
Bottom left corner: A symbol of music notes represents his love for music and his love of dancing.
Bottom right corner: Conga drums. His lively spirit was full of rhythm. His favorite type of music was classic Salsa and he loved playing his congas during many occasions like holidays and even on any day to pass time while enjoying the sound of music.
He will always be loved, never forgotten, and forever missed. His memory will live on through us.
Love, Ana (wife), Cynthia (daughter), Kathrine (daughter), Moises (son-in-law), Nicolas (grandson), Lorena (granddaughter), Hector Rafael (son), Gina (son’s girlfriend), and Skylar (granddaughter).
