Michael Sater

Mike (Maddog) Sater served in the United States Army from 1967-1970 and did a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was very proud of serving in the Army and would have done it again. After he retired, his passion was to help his fellow veterans anyway he could. He remembered how hard it was for him after returning from Vietnam and trying to get the help he needed. He would help veterans with their benefits especially filling out paperwork and help them navigate the VA system. When veterans had trouble getting to their medical appointments, he worked with the County officials to establish a transportation system so the veterans could get to their appointments in Baltimore and Frederick, Maryland and Martinsburg, West Virginia. Since his death, the shuttle has been named the Maddog Veterans Shuttle. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Purple Heart, Toastmasters and many committees that deal with veteran’s concerns. He named Maryland Veteran of the Year in 2014.
