Robert A. King Sr.

Robert A. King Sr. was born August 22, 1955 the son of James J. King Sr. and Rita E. King nee (DiAngelo). A brother of 9 siblings raised in Gloucester City NJ. Robert was a father to 5 children and raised his family in Haddon Township, NJ. He was a grandfather to 4. Robert dedicated his life to working hard and providing for his family. His first love was his family and his second was mummery.

Robert was born into a family of mummery and first paraded when he was 11 years old. He started as a musician and moved up the ranks and became the captain of the Garden State String Band and presented “A Day at the Garden State Race Track”. Carrying a back piece that was built with his own hands measuring 24 feet white and 14 feet high. It folded down into a total theme building, from concept to completion. From life size props to back pieces, you name it he built it to perfection. Roberts’s accomplishments both at the forefront and behind the scenes throughout the years is why he was inducted into the Philadelphia Stringband Hall of Fame.

Roberts’s talent, visions and hands could literally build homes and remold without blue prints. This made his work, one of a kind signature masterpieces.

Robert always shared his heart and talents. He was a dedicated son, brother, husband, father and friend.

Blessed are we who were a part of his life.

On October 29, 2016 Robert gave the gift of life.

May the recipients of these gifts be blessed with the ability to share their talent.
