Each day we’re reminded of tragedy and injustice in the world that we can’t individually do much about. Of course we can vote, but the impact we want to see might be a long time in coming. Giving to political campaigns, causes, and religious institutions can seem fraught — we can’t be sure how the money will be used.
So we often feel that as individuals we simply can’t make much of an impact on the trouble and pain we see around us. Yet, there is a way that, person to person, many of us might directly affect another’s life — that is, by signing up to be an organ donor.
